A working day out exploring in Neath Valley. October 2019

A bit of a final moment journey after unanticipated fantastic weather. I’d cycled by the valley recently and noticed some dereliction, so I was keen to arrive back again with a camera.
Considering the fact that the cycle I would been researching maps and striving to investigate the places I’d noticed with a small achievement.
A strange row of properties and what looked like a manor in Clyne. A derelict victorian school in Clyne. And possibly a armed forces or industrial web site in Rheola.

I also preferred to take a look at Cwmllynfell the place an open cast quarry was encroaching on the village and experienced by now swallowed up a dwelling or two and a lane. I fancied browsing Cefn Coed Colliery Museum way too.

Liked both equally websites at Clyne, did not get to see a lot as Rheola, Cwmllynfell was not as attention-grabbing as I hoped as the google maps I might been studying were being out of date, and the museum was shut for winter season! Not a undesirable day out though.

Pen y Bank
An odd semi detached dwelling, situated in a industry with no apparent street or monitor likely to it. Tricky to say how lengthy it had been empty, as some of the woodwork etc was in alright situation.
Livestock now employing it as shelter, whilst I wouldn’t be keen to be in listed here through high winds as it won’t glance like it will endure for prolonged.
Traces of a tramway just powering the residence, and stays of coal mining in the trees behind. old-maps.co.uk tells me that there was also a tin will work in the up coming discipline. Resolven Tin Plate Performs operatonal from something like 1890 – 1949?
The trees on both equally sides of Twrch Brook is littered with rusty machinary and smaller recommendations from the mining, though a reduce industry [location of Tin Plate Works] appears to be to be a farm machinary graveyard, like this lovely Fordson tractor with a tree developing out of it.
