A day out exploring in Neath Valley. Oct 2019

A bit of a past minute excursion immediately after unanticipated very good weather. I might cycled via the valley not too long ago and seen some dereliction, so I was eager to appear again with a digital camera.
Because the cycle I would been finding out maps and hoping to research the sites I might spotted with a little achievements.
A weird row of residences and what appeared like a manor in Clyne. A derelict victorian college in Clyne. And both a navy or industrial web page in Rheola.

I also preferred to take a look at Cwmllynfell exactly where an open up cast quarry was encroaching on the village and had already swallowed up a home or two and a lane. I fancied checking out Cefn Coed Colliery Museum much too.

Appreciated each websites at Clyne, didn’t get to see much as Rheola, Cwmllynfell was not as intriguing as I hoped as the google maps I might been studying ended up out of day, and the museum was shut for wintertime! Not a undesirable working day out however.

Pen y Lender
An odd semi detached property, located in a area with no obvious highway or monitor going to it. Complicated to say how extensive it had been vacant, as some of the woodwork and so on was in alright situation.
Livestock now applying it as shelter, although I wouldn’t be keen to be in listed here throughout high winds as it won’t seem like it will survive for lengthy.
Traces of a tramway just powering the property, and continues to be of coal mining in the trees behind. old-maps.co.uk tells me that there was also a tin will work in the up coming field. Resolven Tin Plate Operates operational from anything like 1890 – 1949?
The trees on each sides of Twrch Brook is littered with rusty machinery and little ideas from the mining, though a decrease discipline [location of Tin Plate Works] appears to be a farm machinery graveyard, together with this wonderful Fordson tractor with a tree escalating out of it.
