Artists of all forms had been invited to apply for the opportunity to visit our Goddard House Flight Heart to be inspired by the large, golden, fully-assembled James Webb Room Telescope mirror. Webb has a mirror that is virtually 22 toes higher and (to optimize it for infrared observations) is protected in a microscopic layer of precise gold. Simply because of Webb’s visually striking appearance, the project hosted a unique viewing party on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.

There was an frustrating reaction to the event invitation and in the end 20-4 people today ended up selected to show up at. They represented a broad selection of inventive media and variations, including: watercolor, 3D printed sculpture, silk screening, acrylics, sumi-e (East Asian brush technique), comics, letterpress, woodwork, metalwork, jewelry generating, fiber artwork, ink, mural painting, kite-building, tattooing, scientific illustration, poetry, songwriting, and online video creating.

The artists expended various hrs sitting correct in front of the telescope, the place they sketched, painted, took pics and even filmed a tunes movie.

While some of the items of artwork are completed, most of the artists went property with their heads full of ideas and sketchbooks complete of notes.

We will carry on to insert function photographs and artwork below to our Flickr.

This is pen/ink/watercolor by Jedidiah Dore. He says, “Drawing the telescope on site ahead of it launches October 2018 in French Guiana, on an Ariane 5 ECA rocket and into deep room, felt like these a desire.

The lab that JWST is housed in is massive. It seems absolutely spotless, clinical, almost colorless, with engineers wearing cleanroom lab suits even though doing work on silver and gold insulated spacecraft. When generating this drawing I imagined what images are going to reflect again to earth with people huge 18 gold-coated beryllium mirrors. Likely a thing wondrous, astoundingly vibrant and unfathomable. Visions returning to us from out in the darkish, resembling millions of masterful paintings, as if produced by the telescope itself, of galaxies forming and origin of the universe.”
