The author, Ian, is travelling for work to the head office in Warrington, UK for an audit. He wakes up early to walk and take photos before his wife, Jools, drops him off to pick up his car. The car is a small Toyota Yaris and he uses his phone for navigation. He decides to make a detour to visit the church where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and executed, St Mary and All Saints Church in Fotheringhay. He takes some pictures of the church and its House of York tombs before continuing his drive. Along the way, he stops at Titchmarsh where there is a picturesque village with a church, but not much of interest inside.
As Ian drives towards Warrington, snow begins to fall and by the time he reaches the toll road, there is a delay due to an accident. He continues through the snow and arrives at the home of a friend, Teresa. They chat for an hour before Ian receives a call from someone he is supposed to meet with, urging him to get to the golf resort where he will be staying for the next three days. The route to the resort is covered in snow and Ian’s car is running low on fuel, but he makes it safely to the resort.
