Ian is embarking on a trip to head office in Warrington for an audit. Although he is one who is being audited, rather than the auditor, he is excited to be on the road again. His wife, Jools, drops him off on the promenade so that he can take some photographs before he picks up his rental car. The car hire place is not open on time, but eventually, Ian is given a Toyota Yaris. Ian then heads home to have breakfast with his wife before leaving for Warrington. The car has no sat nav, so Ian has to rely on his phone.
Ian decided to take a detour to visit St Mary and All Saints Church in Fotheringhay. The church had a lot of history, being the parish church of the House of York, as well as the final resting place of Richard III. He then planned to visit other churches but skipped the ones he saw as they were “too urban”. He stopped at Titchmarsh, where he found many half-timbered houses lining the high street. Ian stopped to take some photographs of the church, filled with wall paintings, before continuing his journey.
The weather worsens, and snow begins to fall, causing Ian to get delayed on his journey towards Warrington. He receives a call from someone that it would be better if he arrived earlier than expected, given the weather. Eventually, Ian arrives at his friend’s house before leaving for the golf resort, where he stayed. The last mile of his journey was the scariest as the snow became much more intense, although he eventually made it to the resort.
Overall, Ian’s journey to Warrington was filled with excitement and unexpected experiences. Despite the bad weather and driving conditions, Ian managed to make it safely to his destination.
