Granville Island is a peninsula and purchasing district in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is situated in Wrong Creek immediately throughout from Downtown Vancouver’s peninsula, beneath the south stop of the Granville Road Bridge.
Granville Island was when an industrial production spot, but is now a key tourist spot, supplying features these as a community market place, a significant marina, a resort, the Emily Carr University of Art and Style (named in honour of the artist), Arts Umbrella, Bogus Creek Neighborhood Centre, several theatres including the Arts Club Theatre Organization and Carousel Theatre, and wide variety of procuring regions. There are two industrial parts remaining from the Island’s heyday: a device shop and cement plant. The island is quite well-liked with vacationers and locals alike.
Considering that its redevelopment in the 1970s, Granville Island has maintained a wholesome local community of craft studios, including: a Glassblowing studio, two Co-op Printmaking studios, a Wonderful Art Print Studio, a Luthier, a grasp saké maker, a variety of Jewellers, the B.C. Potter’s Guild Gallery, The Crafthouse Gallery, The Circle Craft store, art galleries, boatbuilders, a Wooden Co-op Shop, Woodworkers studios and so on. A weekly Farmer’s Market place has been ongoing considering the fact that the early 1990’s – this was the initial contemporary Farmer’s Marketplace in Vancouver.
Granville Island Brewing Co. is also the identify of a beer corporation which originated on Granville Island in 1984, but whose primary base of functions was moved to Kelowna, British Columbia some time later on. In 2009 it was ordered by Molson’s Brewery and continues to brew small batches of its versions at the authentic internet site, and features beer-tasting and tours of their brewing amenities.
In 2004, Venture for General public Spaces named Granville Island “A person of the World’s Wonderful Destinations”.
