Granville Island is a peninsula and searching district in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is situated in Bogus Creek right across from Downtown Vancouver’s peninsula, below the south conclude of the Granville Avenue Bridge.
Granville Island was the moment an industrial manufacturing region, but is now a key tourist location, offering facilities such as a public market place, a massive marina, a resort, the Emily Carr University of Art and Style (named in honour of the artist), Arts Umbrella, Bogus Creek Community Centre, different theatres together with the Arts Club Theatre Enterprise and Carousel Theatre, and selection of buying regions. There are two industrial regions remaining from the Island’s heyday: a device shop and cement plant. The island is very popular with holidaymakers and locals alike.
Given that its redevelopment in the 1970s, Granville Island has managed a healthful neighborhood of craft studios, including: a Glassblowing studio, two Co-op Printmaking studios, a High-quality Artwork Print Studio, a Luthier, a grasp saké maker, a variety of Jewellers, the B.C. Potter’s Guild Gallery, The Crafthouse Gallery, The Circle Craft store, art galleries, boatbuilders, a Wooden Co-op Shop, Woodworkers studios and so on. A weekly Farmer’s Industry has been ongoing since the early 1990’s – this was the initial up to date Farmer’s Sector in Vancouver.
Granville Island Brewing Co. is also the name of a beer enterprise which originated on Granville Island in 1984, but whose most important foundation of functions was moved to Kelowna, British Columbia some time later. In 2009 it was purchased by Molson’s Brewery and continues to brew modest batches of its varieties at the unique website, and provides beer-tasting and tours of their brewing services.
In 2004, Task for Public Areas named Granville Island “1 of the World’s Good Spots”.
