The Monastery of St Martin of Tibães (Portuguese: Mosteiro de São Martinho de Tibães) is a monastery located in the parish of Mire de Tibães, near Braga, in northern Portugal. It was the mom home of the Benedictine order in Portugal and Brazil, and it is recognized for the exuberant Rococo decoration of its church.

The initially information about a monastic group in the location – the Monastery of Dumio, close to Tibães, started by Saint Martin of Braga – dates from the 6th century.
The Monastery of Tibães was started around 1060, and its feudal legal rights ended up granted by Henry of Burgundy, Count of Portugal, in 1110. During the Middle Ages, after the Kingdom of Portugal grew to become unbiased, wealthy and wide homes in the North of the country came into the possession of the Monastery. On the other hand, thanks to the comprehensive reconstruction work carried out in the 17th and 18th centuries, there are no architectural remnants from this early stage of the ensemble.
In 1567, the Monastery of Tibães turned the mom residence of the Order of Saint Benedict for Portugal and the colony of Brazil, with the initial standard collecting of the Order happening in Tibães in 1570. In the 1st half of the 17th century, in perspective of the ruined situation of the previous monastery and the extensive means at their disposal, the monks began the radical rebuilding that gave origin to the ensemble that exists today. The performs started with the cloisters (Refectory and Cemetery cloisters) and the church, which was developed among 1628 and 1661 in Mannerist type by architects Manuel Álvares and João Turriano. By the starting of the 18th century the new wings of the Monastery had been concluded, which include the Gate Home, the Dormitory, the Visitor Residence, the Chapter House and the Library.

All through the 17th and 18th generations, the Monastery was a web page of sizeable artistic exercise and had an tremendous affect in the Baroque and Rococo artwork of Northern Portugal and abroad colonies. In the decades 1757-1760, architect André Soares built the major altarpiece and the woodwork of the triumphal arch of the most important chapel, as perfectly as the pulpits and lateral altarpieces, all of which are landmarks in Portuguese Rococo artwork. The gilded woodwork was sculpted by famed José de Santo António Vilaça. Lots of statues in the church are by the hand of a different celebrated sculptor, Cipriano da Cruz.
Marketed at an auction sale in 1864, the Tibães Monastery and all its surrounding places fell into decay and wreck. A terrific portion of the ensemble, including the Refectory Cloister, was destroyed in a fire in 1894. In 1986 the Monastery grew to become a State assets and an intensive recovery undertaking was started that carries on to this day.
