This is a tiny (about 6″ x 3″) enclosed variety that I turned out of Manzanita Burl. Manzanita (Arctostaphylos sp.) is an evergreen shrub or compact tree that grows all over western North The usa. The root of lots of species of Manzanita can sometimes form what is identified as a burl. Burls are irregular growths that seem as a huge rounded wart or boil on the tree (or in the situation of the manzanita, at the root). These burls typically comprise an amazing grain and figure, occasionally apearing like eyes or faces, other moments apearing like huge irregular swirls or contours.
Burls can be really hard to kind into bowls, and the Manzanita burl is specifically hard to operate as it is hardly ever a uniform condition, frequently has inclusions of bark, or even grime or rocks, and it tends to split although drying.
