This black walnut dining table was encouraged by a layout by Sam Maloof. 1 of the modifications I built was that the plugs are all sacrificial. This way the full desk can be knocked down if it demands to be moved. The most challenging aspect of the project was the miter joints on the legs. They are joined with 3/4″ dowels and then people dowels are cross-pinned with 1/4″ dowels, which are then pared flush. It was completed with a oil/varnish blend favored by Sam Maloof. The mix is composed of 1/3 boiled linseed oil, 1/3 tung oil, 1/3 semi-gloss polyurethane.
