We are creating a general public makerspace in Tam Superior School’s point out-of-the-artwork woodshop, to produce awesome objects — and develop a local community of makers, students and academics in South Marin.
In this article are some of the artworks we are producing in Geo Monley’s woodworking workshop, called ‘You Can Make It’. With his help, I am setting up a ‘maker artwork cart’ to showcase the operate of our students — and Howard Rheingold is generating a triangular table for our Pataphysical Studios.
This 7 days, I utilised the laser cutter to make characters for our Metropolis of the Long term course. In this ‘maker art’ course, decrease and middle college college students will build a futuristic home with a cardboard ‘wonderbox’ and animated people these as these. They will bring these wooden and acrylic figures to life with lights, seems and movement, using straightforward electronics.
Geo showed off ‘Maker Field’, the animatronic city his higher faculty college students are making with his assist. Here’s their operate in development, which now features a variety of properties (which includes ‘Trump Towers’ and a 5V electric power plant), as very well as a robot car run with Arduino.
These tasks are good examples of what we could help with much more maker packages for adults and teenagers in this new Tam Large makerspace. Additional on this later on.
