We are establishing a public makerspace in Tam Significant School’s state-of-the-artwork woodshop, to build neat objects — and improve a local community of makers, college students and teachers in South Marin.
Here are some of the artworks we are developing in Geo Monley’s woodworking workshop, identified as ‘You Can Build It’. With his aid, I am constructing a ‘maker art cart’ to showcase the work of our students — and Howard Rheingold is creating a triangular table for our Pataphysical Studios.
This week, I applied the laser cutter to make characters for our Town of the Potential training course. In this ‘maker art’ course, reduce and center university learners will build a futuristic dwelling with a cardboard ‘wonderbox’ and animated figures such as these. They will carry these wooden and acrylic figures to lifetime with lights, appears and motion, using very simple electronics.
Geo showed off ‘Maker Field’, the animatronic town his higher school pupils are developing with his assistance. Here’s their function in progress, which now options a wide range of buildings (together with ‘Trump Towers’ and a 5V electrical power plant), as properly as a robot car powered with Arduino.
These jobs are good illustrations of what we could aid with extra maker plans for adults and teens in this new Tam Substantial makerspace. A lot more on this afterwards.
