Little Saxham is a charming village situated near the edge of the Ickworth estate. The village’s church, St Nicholas, is located at the eastern end of the village where the main road from Bury forks. Although the view of the church is slightly obscured by modern street furnishings, the church itself is still relatively unchanged, with the bell-stage being of particular historical interest. The Lucas chapel, built in the 1530s, also adds to the architectural interest of the church. Inside, the church boasts a number of noteworthy features, including two remarkable archways, medieval woodwork, and a vestry that contains the tomb of William, first Baron Crofts. Although a large number of gravestones were removed from the churchyard in the 1960s, a few of the older ones have been preserved, including the headstone of Frederick Fisher who died in Little Saxham in 1919 after being wounded at Ypres.
