Artists of all kinds have been invited to apply for the likelihood to go to our Goddard Place Flight Middle to be inspired by the big, golden, entirely-assembled James Webb Room Telescope mirror. Webb has a mirror that is approximately 22 ft significant and (to improve it for infrared observations) is covered in a microscopic layer of actual gold. Because of Webb’s visually putting look, the undertaking hosted a distinctive viewing event on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.
There was an overwhelming reaction to the occasion invitation and eventually twenty-4 men and women had been selected to go to. They represented a broad range of inventive media and styles, which includes: watercolor, 3D printed sculpture, silk screening, acrylics, sumi-e (East Asian brush technique), comics, letterpress, woodwork, metalwork, jewelry creating, fiber art, ink, mural painting, kite-making, tattooing, scientific illustration, poetry, songwriting, and movie creating.
The artists used several hours sitting proper in entrance of the telescope, where they sketched, painted, took pics and even filmed a songs movie.
Although some of the parts of artwork were completed at the party, most of the artists went dwelling with their heads complete of tips and sketchbooks comprehensive of notes.

Artist’s Statement
The letters in this piece were being hand drawn, laser reduce out of wood, and the letterpress printed from the wood blocks. The piece explores new approaches and processes. The hexagons in the background characterize the unfinished telescope. The printing blocks are by themselves items of artwork created in the earning of the final poster.
