Fantômas with Terry Bozzio from Frank Zappa on drums
Fantômas began just ahead of the collapse of Faith No Far more, as a series of spasmic, avant-garde metal/grindcore tunes composed by vocalist and bandleader Mike Patton. Patton then despatched the demos to guitarist Buzz Osborne (of Melvins), bass guitarist Trevor Dunn (of Mr. Bungle) and drummer Igor Cavalera (of Sepultura), with the intention of forming a supergroup. Cavalera declined the supply, but encouraged who he thought would be excellent for the job: Dave Lombardo of Slayer, who acknowledged.[5][6] The band have launched all of their albums as a result of Patton’s independent label Ipecac, however there was initially fascination from various prominent record labels, mainly owing to Patton’s commercial achievements with Faith No A lot more. He recalled “There was a full whole lot of interest, at initially. Folks from Geffen and things like this came out to the displays. But just after the present, they disappeared into the woodwork. There have been [also] indies that were interested, but none that I was fascinated in.”[7]
