LE.LEI Leicester Forest Tollhouse

Previous Street Toll Home at Leicester Forest East Gate, now No. 149, Hinckley Highway, LEICESTER FOREST EAST (BLABY District). The principal composition is believed to have been built for the Hinckley and Narborough Turnpike Belief in the 19th century in the form of a vernacular home. Now domestic home with significant changes to the authentic tollhouse construction on the A47, Hinckley to Leicester road. External options two-storeys on rectangular floor plan, having a gabled roof, with partitions primarily of brick, roofed in simple tile, square headed home windows with tracery, no porch with a sq. headed doorway Tudor design lodge with ornamentation all over windows. Revival Elizabethan in brick with black and white panel and ornate woodwork. In spite of notes in the neighborhood newspaper, this appears to be like a lodge to massive dwelling rather than a tollhouse, though it may well have been moved from its initial locale. Not Stated. NGR: SK 5296 0331: Tollhouse Countrywide ID: LE.LEI (see turnpikes.org.british isles)
