This is a German Kunz no 7 test aircraft. I can’t figure out the age of this plane, as tiny is knob about the corporation. This particular aircraft is a single of my heirlooms, as it the moment belonged to my late grandfather. This plane was possibly utilised by him in numerous different techniques but considering that he created his summer cottage in the Finnish archipelago by him´myself, I would assume that this airplane was quite much associated.

The plane has been practically unused since the early 1970s when my grandfather passed absent. And getting turn out to be interested in woodworking I stumbled over this hand airplane when browsing the summer months cottage in 2011. Just after paying out practically forty several years in a unheated summertime cottage and being exposed to the damp and salty winds of the Gulf of Finland, this aircraft experienced nevertheless managed pretty well. When I found the plane it was clearly afflicted with mild floor rust and what seemed like salt stains on the sole, but all in all, the plane had survived incredibly well.
Herr Gustav Kunz was a modest gentleman. The plane was only marked with the organization title at the the toe with the product number at the heel. The lever cap and iron are unmarked at the entrance, but if you transform the iron close to, the initials GK are stamped at the back.

This aircraft is not equipped with a frog altering screw on the again of the frog. Also the blade adjuster is alternatively tiny, specially thinking about the sizing of the plane. The good factor is that it leaves more room for your hand, but turning the wheel with just two fingers can be a bit of an challenge.

The plane is in pretty respectable shape, with only slight reduction of the japanning. Each individual part on this aircraft appears to be primary. The handles appear to be apple. They are lacquered but I won’t be able to inform if this was authentic or some thing my grandfather extra.

The user encounter is incredibly excellent. The Kunz iron is a excellent 1 and marginally thicker than the Stanley irons. I haven’t fettled a entire large amount with it as I pretty rarely have a will need for a no 7 and I also want to make absolutely sure I would not destruction it.
