Kunz_no7_jack plane_11

This is a German Kunz no 7 attempt aircraft. I cannot establish the age of this plane, as minor is knob about the organization. This certain airplane is one particular of my heirlooms, as it once belonged to my late grandfather. This airplane was almost certainly applied by him in lots of various techniques but since he built his summer season cottage in the Finnish archipelago by him´myself, I would presume that this aircraft was incredibly much concerned.

The plane has been virtually unused considering that the early 1970s when my grandfather passed away. And having turn into interested in woodworking I stumbled in excess of this hand plane when browsing the summertime cottage in 2011. Following spending almost forty a long time in a unheated summertime cottage and being uncovered to the moist and salty winds of the Gulf of Finland, this aircraft had nonetheless managed extremely properly. When I identified the plane it was evidently affected with light-weight surface rust and what seemed like salt stains on the sole, but all in all, the plane experienced survived really effectively.
Herr Gustav Kunz was a modest gentleman. The aircraft was only marked with the company identify at the the toe with the product amount at the heel. The lever cap and iron are unmarked at the front, but if you convert the iron all over, the initials GK are stamped at the back again.

This plane is not fitted with a frog changing screw on the again of the frog. Also the blade adjuster is relatively little, especially thinking about the size of the airplane. The fantastic thing is that it leaves a lot more home for your hand, but turning the wheel with just two fingers can be a bit of an challenge.

The plane is in rather respectable condition, with only slight decline of the japanning. Every part on this airplane seems to be original. The handles seem to be apple. They are lacquered but I cannot inform if this was initial or a little something my grandfather additional.

The consumer encounter is very good. The Kunz iron is a great one and somewhat thicker than the Stanley irons. I haven’t fettled a whole large amount with it as I pretty rarely have a require for a no 7 and I also want to make positive I will not injury it.
