Kunz_no7_jack plane_010

This is a German Kunz no 7 try plane. I can not determine the age of this airplane, as very little is knob about the firm. This individual airplane is 1 of my heirlooms, as it once belonged to my late grandfather. This airplane was likely applied by him in numerous distinct means but due to the fact he crafted his summer time cottage in the Finnish archipelago by him´myself, I would presume that this aircraft was pretty significantly associated.

The airplane has been just about unused given that the early 1970s when my grandfather handed away. And owning turn out to be interested in woodworking I stumbled over this hand aircraft when traveling to the summer cottage in 2011. After shelling out approximately forty a long time in a unheated summer cottage and staying uncovered to the damp and salty winds of the Gulf of Finland, this aircraft experienced even now managed really nicely. When I found the airplane it was clearly afflicted with mild surface rust and what appeared like salt stains on the sole, but all in all, the aircraft had survived extremely perfectly.
Herr Gustav Kunz was a modest male. The airplane was only marked with the business identify at the the toe with the product selection at the heel. The lever cap and iron are unmarked at the front, but if you switch the iron close to, the initials GK are stamped at the again.

This aircraft is not equipped with a frog adjusting screw on the back again of the frog. Also the blade adjuster is rather modest, in particular thinking of the dimension of the plane. The very good issue is that it leaves a lot more home for your hand, but turning the wheel with just two fingers can be a little bit of an challenge.

The airplane is in rather good condition, with only slight reduction of the japanning. Every single section on this plane appears to be original. The handles seem to be apple. They are lacquered but I are not able to convey to if this was authentic or a little something my grandfather added.

The person experience is quite excellent. The Kunz iron is a superior a single and a little thicker than the Stanley irons. I have not fettled a complete lot with it as I really seldom have a want for a no 7 and I also want to make absolutely sure I won’t damage it.
