Kent’s Tunbridge Wells Honors King Charles, the Martyr

King Charles the Martyr, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

On the equinox at 21:47 GMT, light overtook darkness signalling the start of longer days. The end of the year is a time for reflection on the past 50 or so weeks, a time for mixed emotions of good and bad, and celebration. The author is on vacation, having thrown a few electronic grenades over the walls of their work, and is not up-to-date with their tasks. They drop their partner off at work before embarking on a mini-churchcrawl across the west of Kent. The journey takes them through Tonbridge, passing by stockbroker mansions and arriving at Penshurst Place, where the Sidneys family have resided since Tudor times. The author visits the Sidney Chapel which has memorials and colourful roof beams. They also visit Groombridge where they capture fabulous glass photos at a small chapel, and Tunbridge Wells, where they photograph the ceiling and other details of the church. Later, the author picks up their partner from a work lunch in Folkestone before returning home.
