“Captain John Holbert and his spouse Jill procured the Merrie Ellen in 2007 and begun a a few year restoration of the schooner. The captain has a U.S. Coastline Guard 100 ton Masters license and sailing endorsement.
A sailor considering the fact that the age of 12, John built his initially boat. He and Jill have sailed jointly from substantial school on aboard 6 diverse vessels. They constructed their residence on the Hood Canal at Brinnon Washington and retain the Merrie Ellen in Enjoyable Harbor in between seasons.
Our all volunteer crew is manufactured up of sailing fans who arrived aboard once for a charter and obtained hooked. Most arrive back again as crew for a several outings each 12 months and assistance with the off period routine maintenance. The 107 foot gaff schooner Merrie Ellen was constructed in Vancouver British Columbia in 1922. The classic wood schooner underwent a full refit in Port Townsend WA. The historic sailing schooner has lodging for just one to a few couples in personal queen bed staterooms that every have a personal bathroom.

The Northwest College of Picket Boatbuilding, in Port Hadlock WA, a couple of miles south of Port Townsend and about 30 miles north of Brinnon WA, MERRIE ELLEN’s winter season residence, is very pleased to have skilled a lot of of the shipwrights who assisted the Holberts restore this impressive vessel when she was undergoing restoration in Port Townsend.
The Northwest College of Wooden Boatbuilding is located in Port Hadlock WA and is a private, accredited non-income vocational university.
Our mission is to teach and preserve the wonderful artwork of wooden boatbuilding and common maritime crafts. We establish equally commissioned and speculative boats for sale while teaching students boatbuilding the competencies they require to perform in the marine trades.
