“Captain John Holbert and his spouse Jill obtained the Merrie Ellen in 2007 and commenced a a few calendar year restoration of the schooner. The captain has a U.S. Coastline Guard 100 ton Masters license and sailing endorsement.
A sailor due to the fact the age of 12, John developed his very first boat. He and Jill have sailed together from higher college on aboard 6 different vessels. They constructed their residence on the Hood Canal at Brinnon Washington and keep the Merrie Ellen in Nice Harbor involving seasons.
Our all volunteer crew is built up of sailing fanatics who came aboard the moment for a charter and received hooked. Most arrive back again as crew for a handful of journeys every calendar year and enable with the off time maintenance. The 107 foot gaff schooner Merrie Ellen was developed in Vancouver British Columbia in 1922. The vintage wood schooner underwent a comprehensive refit in Port Townsend WA. The historic sailing schooner has accommodation for just one to 3 partners in non-public queen mattress staterooms that each individual have a personal bathroom.

The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, in Port Hadlock WA, a handful of miles south of Port Townsend and about 30 miles north of Brinnon WA, MERRIE ELLEN’s winter season residence, is proud to have trained lots of of the shipwrights who assisted the Holberts restore this outstanding vessel when she was undergoing restoration in Port Townsend.
The Northwest University of Wood Boatbuilding is found in Port Hadlock WA and is a private, accredited non-financial gain vocational faculty.
Our mission is to teach and preserve the good art of wooden boatbuilding and common maritime crafts. We make each commissioned and speculative boats for sale whilst training college students boatbuilding the competencies they have to have to work in the marine trades.
