“Captain John Holbert and his spouse Jill procured the Merrie Ellen in 2007 and started a three 12 months restoration of the schooner. The captain has a U.S. Coastline Guard 100 ton Masters license and sailing endorsement.

A sailor due to the fact the age of 12, John crafted his initially boat. He and Jill have sailed alongside one another from higher faculty on aboard 6 distinct vessels. They created their household on the Hood Canal at Brinnon Washington and keep the Merrie Ellen in Enjoyable Harbor in between seasons.

Our all volunteer crew is created up of sailing fanatics who came aboard once for a constitution and bought hooked. The 107 foot gaff schooner Merrie Ellen was constructed in Vancouver British Columbia in 1922. The classic wooden schooner underwent a comprehensive refit in Port Townsend WA. The historic sailing schooner has lodging for 1 to three couples in private queen bed staterooms that each and every have a non-public rest room.

The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, in Port Hadlock WA, a few miles south of Port Townsend and about 30 miles north of Brinnon WA, MERRIE ELLEN’s winter season household, is very pleased to have qualified many of the shipwrights who assisted the Holberts restore this wonderful vessel when she was going through restoration in Port Townsend.

The Northwest School of Wood Boatbuilding is situated in Port Hadlock WA and is a personal, accredited non-income vocational school.

Our mission is to instruct and preserve the great art of picket boatbuilding and traditional maritime crafts. We construct each commissioned and speculative boats for sale while educating learners boatbuilding the skills they need to have to perform in the maritime trades.
