This smaller tug was designed by the American designer H.C. Hanson in 1957 for the US Forest Company as a Scaler’s Boat. Scalers establish the amount of board toes of lumber in each individual log slice by a timber crew. 3 of these vessels had been crafted commercially in the mid-1950’s to this design for the Forest Services for use in the western United States.
Previous teacher Tim Lee redrew the strains for the 26-variation, stretching it to 28 feet. The extension enables the motor box to be moved aft of the pilothouse though the pilothouse can be lengthened a little bit.
Under his direction, college students at the School commenced design in 2013. Teacher Peter Bailey’s learners continued get the job done on the boat during the class of 2014. We be expecting to complete the boat by mid-September, 2015. As of this producing, it is for sale.
The tug is 28 toes extended with a beam of about 8 ft. It has a draft of 4 ft, and displaces about 5 tons.
Our tug is crafted as a cruising tug. It will be planked in aromatic port orford cedar from southern Oregon in excess of white oak frames. The property sides will be mahogany. The boat will be pushed by a 54 hp Yanmar diesel motor, and will be customized to the owner’s desire’s right before delivery.
