We laid up progressively broader glass tapes on the small side prior to putting a tape designed from the 2oz (70gsm) in excess of the full join. Glass tapes never ever want to be broader than 2″ or 50mm until finally the boat is very significant.
The “misplaced sugar” process of creating non skid also helped to disguise this defect – it is pretty hard to recognize.
