This 1800s Greek revival-design mansion developed by the John T. McMurran family beginning in 1841.
The interior of the 1st floor is arranged all around a central corridor and consists of a dining space, drawing place, parlor, library, back again corridor, storage and services rooms. The central and back again hall present a wonderful example of painted floor cloth that is authentic to the residence, and a different attribute is the punkah discovered in the dining home. Interior doorways are framed by Ionic columns and sunburst-form woodwork earlier mentioned.
Guided excursions of the household give guests a glimpse into the way of life of the pre-Civil War American South and aid them understand slave lifetime in an estate environment. Sitting today on 80 acres preserved by the Nationwide Park Company, the home stands as a nicely-preserved piece of America’s historical past.
