Almshouses, Warden’s House and free of charge college, 1668, created for Lady Margaret Hungerford of Corsham Court. Rubble stone and stone tiled roofs, two and a 50 % storeys, ‘L’-prepare with major front to west, Warden’s Property to left and schoolroom to right, and almshouse vary working east, struggling with north to Lacock Road. West array has hipped roof with central timber cupola and leaded cap. Ornate projecting gabled centre with moulded coping, apex oval light-weight and elaborate to start with floor carved Hungerford arms in pilastered body with open segmental pediment, further arms around pediment, crests more than pediment angles, inscription panel down below framed by pedestals to pilasters with lion masks. Moulded elliptical-arched doorway with carved spandrels in Ionic columned encompass with entablature, damaged forward around columns, and rosettes in pulvinated frieze. Stone seats within just and framed plank double doors in moulded elliptical-arched surround with carved spandrels. Keyed ovals to floor ground sides, 3-gentle initially ground mullion home windows with arched heads to centre lights and hoodmoulds more than. Recessed chamfered mullions and leaded lights in this article and in other places. To right, massive schoolroom with attic above, 2 dormer gables with 3-light-weight mullion windows and hoodmoulds. South end has equivalent floor flooring window and very similar dormer gable higher than, rear wall has huge central outside stack with diagonal shafts, 2 dormer gables and 2 huge elliptical-arched solitary-light ground flooring windows. Warden’s Home, to still left, has one particular dormer gable with 3-light-weight window and hoodmould, dripcourses in excess of ground and initial flooring, on very first flooring stepped over early C18 twelve-pane sash in lifted moulded encompass and continued about 2-light-weight mullion window in angle to porch. Canine-leg stair with finials and pendants to newels, shut strings, carved balusters and hefty moulded rail. Tudor-arched fireplaces to rear of stair hall, initially floor rear and one particular attic area. North- west corner rooms altered in early C18. Almshouse array interiors not inspected but continual attic loft of some 14 bays with tie- beam-and-collar trusses, first curved stress braces surviving only to past 2 collars.
