Henry M. McDonald was a pioneer businessman and president of the Trader’s Financial institution in Pierre. In 1884, he began planning organizing the building of his residence at the corner of Taylor and Erskine in what was then referred to as East Pierre. Located close to the web site of the small-lived Pierre University, it was a person of the initial buildings in that element of the group. It was patterned right after the Wisconsin home of his father-in-regulation. The household was concluded in mid-1885. For the duration of the early 1890s, James Ward leased the home variety McDonald. Ward was a delegate to the 1885 condition constitutional conference, previous territorial auditor, and 1894 Democratic candidate for Governor of South Dakota.
