The Gouinlock Household, found at 42 Broadway Avenue East, is situated on the southwest corner of Broadway and Emily Streets, in the previous City of Paris, now the County of Brant. The home consists of a a single-storey, rubble-stone, developing built in 1845.
The house was selected by the previous City of Paris, in 1984, for its historic or architectural price underneath Portion IV of the Ontario Heritage Act (By-regulation 2568).
The Gouinlock Dwelling is linked with John Penman, a person of Paris’s primary early industrialists and the cofounder of the Penman Producing Enterprise Constrained. Penman rented this house, in the mid-1880s, when his long-lasting home, Penmarvian, was underneath renovation.
Built in 1845, the Gouinlock Property is considered to be the only sound rubble-stone constructing in Paris. This house functions nearby components and qualified craftsmanship. The exterior of the property was parging and etched to resemble cut stone blocks or coursed ashlar. The initial roof of wooden shakes, laid in mortar, is coated with tin sheeting.
