In a moment of transcendence between science and art, the US Goddard Space Flight Center invited 24 artists of diverse media to visit and to be inspired by the James Webb Space Telescope. The telescope’s mirror is nearly 22 feet high and is covered in a microscopic layer of gold to optimize it for infrared observations. Artists selected represented a broad range of styles, including poetry, songwriting, sculpture, silk screening and tattooing. Some produced finished pieces while others left with sketchbooks full of notes.
