Enhancing Youth’s Lives by Cultivating Essential Skills

Building skills in the lives of our youth

CBMM’s Rising Tide boatshop program is a unique initiative in collaboration with the YMCA of the Chesapeake and the Academy Art Museum of Easton. The program was initiated in November 2015 and comprised of two six-week after-school boatbuilding sessions specially designed for Talbot County 6th grade students. Funded through philanthropic support, the program aims to teach basic boatbuilding skills to students in a nurturing environment, facilitating mentorships with shipwright educators. The program’s ultimate goal is to empower students to develop a sense of self-confidence and pride.

The program’s pilot sessions are small and limited to only those registered and transported by the YMCA of the Chesapeake from their Easton location. The pilot sessions are highly interactive and engage students in basic woodworking skills and safety procedures, with several take-home projects provided for participants.

Rising Tide boatshop program has garnered critical acclaim for its focus on empowering young students, and its success in creating mentorships with shipwright educators. The program’s emphasis on the value of woodworking skills, safety practice, and pride in craftsmanship is highly regarded among educators and educational professionals.

In conclusion, CBMM’s Rising Tide boatshop program’s success in nurturing students has provided a model for future educational programs, and its unique approach to mentorship and self-empowerment has found widespread acclaim. With new pilots in development, students, educators, and philanthropists alike are eagerly awaiting the program’s continued success.
