The Waggoner Mansion, positioned at the conclusion of Major Avenue in the city of Decatur, was constructed by Mr. Dan Waggoner for a increasing household. Sometimes identified as “El Castile”, this is a massive house, located on a hill east of city, sitting down on 13 and one-50 % acres. The dwelling consists of two tales, sixteen rooms, with a complete basement and eight fireplaces.
“Thistle Hill” by Roze Porter, describes the mansion in Decatur thusly:
“It was created of aged fossiliferous limestone and decorated with handcrafted wrought iron on the roof and balconies. 50 %-moon-shaped stained glass included an array of shade to the tops of the windows and to the massive enormous hand-carved entrance doorway. At the peak of the house, an ornate cupola gave excellent height to the stately house.
The inviting to start with flooring entrance hall exposed a winding stairway sweeping up to the 2nd ground. Hand-carved Texas Star motif decorated the walnut and oak stairway and woodwork throughout the property. Huge doors with reliable brass hardware, stood sixteen ft tall minifying the tall ceilings. Three of the big doors enhanced with stained glass projected dancing rays of coloured gentle in the inside.
Introducing an air of magnificence to the entrance parlor hung a gorgeous ornate chandelier. Wrought iron and handmade isinglass fixtures from Denver complemented the Victorian library, significant eating area and two halls. Also on the 1st ground were five bed-rooms, three marble baths, a retaining home, butler’s pantry, and a huge kitchen area with copper sink and equipment.
The second flooring contained a significant video game area, 3 bedrooms and two marble baths.”
The home is enclosed by a wrought iron fence with an archway bearing the title “El Castile.” It is not open to the community.
