Coates by Stow church is set in a distant farmyard in the Lincolnshire countryside. It serves a farm and a scattering of cottages. As a consequence of its isolation it has retained most of its pre-Reformation fittings intact. Which include a rood with rood loft and projecting Gospel lectern, panelled tympanum adorned with the remains of a rood with attendant figures of Mary and John, a medieval pulpit, easter sepulchre and rustic benches. An incredible and atmospheric constructing.
