Element of the memorial pill to Richard Corbett (d.1774) in the chancel.

St Mary’s at Leebotwood is a modest church, a short single chamber making without structural division between nave and chancel (like many old church buildings in this often quite rural place). The west tower is later and curiously rectangular in approach.

Within the dominant impression is of remaining surrounded by woodwork, with half the internal peak accounted for by the steeply pitched roof and box pews beneath. Beyond the walls of the chancel are lined with quite a few memorial tablets, some of extremely great top quality, having said that the earliest attribute of notice is the sizeable fragment of a 14th century wall painting on the north side of the nave.

St Mary’s is a compact creating but an interesting a single, and fortunately open and welcoming to visitors.
