Creator/Contributor: Charles J. Connick (1875-1945), designer

Date designed: 1935

Bodily description: gouache

Summary: This gouache model for a stained glass undertaking at St. John the Divine in New York Metropolis was a collaboration involving Boston-based mostly stained glass designers, the Connick Studio, and the architect Ralph Adams Cram. The dominant determine in the rose window in this panel is Saint Dunstan, patron of steel-employees and musicians. The encircling panels celebrate the so-called insignificant arts and crafts: stone carving, manuscript illumination, embroidery, stained glass, metal-performing, and woodworking. In the lancets down below, the 8 major medallions symbolize the major arts of architecture, sculpture, painting, poetry, and tunes.

The Connick Collection, housed in the BPL’s Fine Arts Office, consists of information and descriptions of practically all of the firm’s commissions, and numerous of the preparatory drawings (gouaches and total-dimensions cartoons).
