Church of St Michael & All Angels, Brampton Abbots Herefordshire (Brampton = Broom settlement- Abbotts referring to its possession by the abbots of St Peter’s Abbey Gloucester from pre 1086 Domesday right until the 16c Reformation)
Created of community sandstone, the nave and chancel are 12c with restoration in 14c which involved a south porch
In 16c a “pointed” chancel arch was set on Norman pillars and the west wall was fixed in 1686 alongside with the bell turret.
In the 19c the church was restored by architect George Frederick Bodley. Later the bell turret which retains 3 bells, was mainly re-designed, the vestry additional on the north aspect of the chancel and the south porch rebuilt reusing some of the 14c timbers.
The existing interior is largely thanks to the restoration of 1907-8 by Arts & Crafts architect, William Douglas Caroe with woodwork like a new monitor and reredos
