Bramfield’s St. Mary Magdalene

St Mary Magdalene, Bramfield

St Andrew’s Church in Bramfield, Suffolk is a medieval church with a detached round tower, an attractively rendered and limewashed exterior, and a long open space within the church divided into nave and chancel without aisles. The church’s rood-screen is one of the finest surviving medieval screens in the country and is an exquisite piece of late medieval woodwork with delicate miniature vaults above where the rood-loft would have formerly been located. The chancel also contains a striking 17th century memorial to the Coke family by Nicholas Stone, with husband kneeling in prayer above and his wife and baby reclining below. The church is open to visitors and is part of a popular churchcrawling circuit in the area.
