We harvest basketball courts from educational facilities. Evidently each 20-50 many years colleges swap 10s of thousands of sq. ft of gymnasium flooring and ordinarily throw it away. Admittedly it is a bit of a pain to reuse in residential settings (but undoubtedly quite if the effort and hard work is set in) and sizeable quantities of this product have been employed to make counters and tables desks and bar tops. For these shoppers they needed a health club ground desk and we observed a uncommon piece that nonetheless had its graphics. We uncovered a pair of aged 1950s conference desk legs and developed a table all-around the piece…together with obtaining the graphics wrap all over on the skirt.
The flooring is rock maple nailed into sleepers (essentially 2×3 ). I stapled 3/4 in plywood strips to the bottom prior to eradicating the sleepers. Following the sleepers were eradicated I set some minimal profile stiffeners created of extra parts of strip maple turned sideways. The apron was also manufactured from added items of maple. In this case I applied the items with the graphics to generate the waterfall effect. Because the maple is tongue and groove I have to piece jointly items on the groove side for the reason that they’d normally be backward. The corners have been made with a mortise and tenon joint. THe apron is brad nailed into the flooring and blocks glued and stapled beneath all around the edges,
The legs from the aged convention desk have been sanded primed and repainted with shiny white enamel paint. The top and sides are sanded with 220 grit paper and coated with satin, water-dependent polyurethane. Care is taken to not remove the patina and where ever cuts and sanding exposed new wood..time and sunlight will inevitably even it out.
