We harvest basketball courts from universities. Evidently each individual 20-50 years educational facilities replace 10s of hundreds of square toes of gymnasium flooring and commonly toss it away. Admittedly it is a bit of a pain to reuse in household configurations (but certainly fairly if the hard work is place in) and considerable quantities of this materials have been utilised to make counters and tables desks and bar tops. For these customers they preferred a gymnasium ground table and we located a scarce piece that continue to had its graphics. We found a pair of old 1950s convention table legs and designed a table about the piece…including owning the graphics wrap about on the skirt.
The flooring is rock maple nailed into sleepers (fundamentally 2×3 ). I stapled 3/4 in plywood strips to the bottom prior to removing the sleepers. Immediately after the sleepers were being taken off I put some low profile stiffeners designed of further parts of strip maple turned sideways. The apron was also made from extra parts of maple. In this situation I utilised the parts with the graphics to make the waterfall influence. For the reason that the maple is tongue and groove I have to piece with each other pieces on the groove aspect simply because they’d normally be backward. The corners were being built with a mortise and tenon joint. THe apron is brad nailed into the ground and blocks glued and stapled beneath all around the edges,
The legs from the old conference desk were sanded primed and repainted with glossy white enamel paint. The top and sides are sanded with 220 grit paper and coated with satin, h2o-primarily based polyurethane. Care is taken to not take away the patina and wherever cuts and sanding uncovered new wooden..time and sunlight will at some point even it out.
