The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding is a private, accredited non-profit vocational school located in Port Hadlock, Washington. This institution’s mission is to teach and preserve the fine art of wooden boatbuilding and traditional maritime crafts. The school’s Traditional Large Craft class of 2007 built a Haven 12 1/2 for a client under the direction of Master Boatbuilder Jeff Hammond.

The Haven 12 1/2 is a popular design created by Joel White, who adapted Nathanael G. Herreshoff’s 1914 daysailor. Herreshoff is often referred to as “the Wizard of Bristol”. White’s work can be found in his obituary, which provides a good summary of his life and accomplishments.

The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding provides education in wooden boatbuilding as well as traditional maritime crafts. They offer degree programs in marine carpentry, as well as workshops and classes for individuals seeking to learn and preserve these skills.

To learn more about the school or inquire about enrollment, you can visit their website at www.nwboatschool.org, send an email to info@nwboatschool.org, or call at 360-385-4948.
