Basis stone 15 Jan 1903 by Sir Samuel Way, architect Edward Davies, opened 28 Apr 1904. In 1942 bank transferred to new building in King William St. In the course of WWII this developing was place of work of Manpower Directorate (liable to avoid labour shortages in very important regions). Grew to become Commonwealth Lender 1949. Banking chamber wrecked but facade preserved when State Bank Tower designed 1988 (afterwards renamed Santos Making 1997, then Westpac Residence 2007).

Large gear, cash and records had been transferred by yesterday.” [Advertiser 31 Jan 1949]
