Angsila, a small community located in the Chonbury province of Thailand, is known for its high-quality rock products such as pestle and mortars, lamps, furniture, and sculptures. The village also offers dried shrimps, pickled clam, shrimp paste, sweetened fish, and dry squid that can be bought at Saphan Pla Ban Angsila, the fresh seafood market in the area. The market also sells fresh mussel and oysters from mussel and oyster farms in the vicinity. Seafood should be purchased before 8 in the morning since freshness may be compromised later in the day. Stalls provide cooking services for visitors. There are also restaurants nearby where people can enjoy a meal while overlooking the beautiful views of the bay.
There are two temples in Angsila, namely, the Naja Chinese Temple and the Sala Ruesi Temple. The Naja Chinese Temple has intricate artwork on its walls and structures, a large hanging drum, and a beautiful garden setting. Car parking is limited so it is often full. Meanwhile, the Sala Ruesi Temple has a large Buddha image and various structures with smaller temples. Monkeys wander along the roads and grass areas, thus visitors are advised to approach them with caution.
Angsila was the first seaside resort in Thailand during King Rama IV’s reign. The town’s fresh air is believed to be beneficial for those who need to recover from illnesses. A royal family member constructed a recovery building and established Angsila as a resort for patients.
