Crafting a Socially Transformative Art Float

Creating an Art Float for Social Change

Tam Makers, a community space located in Mill Valley, is in the process of creating an Art Float for Social Change. The float is designed to encourage more people to participate in democracy, particularly focusing on youth and people of color. The project aims to inspire voters by incorporating art, music and technology to reach out to the community.

The Tam Makers team is led by co-founders Fabrice Florin and Geo Monley, and includes a group of students and makers. Together they hope to create a unique float that celebrates mother earth with a carousel of waving hands, pulled by a giant feathered serpent. The float will include performers who will tell stories of hope on a stage decorated with scenes of a better world. Additionally, large signs will invite people to speak up and vote. Individuals can pitch ideas for social change on the podium, or have them scroll on the news ticker.

The Art Float for Social Change is committed to presenting this show on various key dates such as Earth Day, Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades in Marin. The aim is to attract large audiences with diverse backgrounds and ethnicities to encourage voting. The float will also be displayed throughout California this fall.

All community members are invited to participate in the creation of the Art Float for Social Change. The project is due for completion in March and April 2018, with volunteer hours held on Thursday evenings from 4 pm to 9 pm, and Saturday mornings from 10 am to 1 pm. Volunteers can reach out through email to float@tammakers.org if interested.

In conclusion, the Art Float for Social Change is a unique and innovative initiative that is spearheaded by Tam Makers in Mill Valley. Through the integration of art, music, and technology, the float aims to amplify the message of voting, with a particular focus on inspiring youth and people of color. The creation of the float is a community-driven project, and all are welcome to participate. By taking part in the project, individuals will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of civic responsibility and encourage voter participation.
