Fostering Youth Development through Skill Building

Building skills in the lives of our youth

CBMM’s Rising Tide Boatshop program is a six-week after-school boatbuilding initiative designed to teach basic woodworking skills and safety procedures to Talbot County 6th grade students. The program is a joint initiative between the YMCA of the Chesapeake and the Academy Art Museum of Easton.

The program, which began in November 2015, is philanthropically funded with a limited number of participants. The YMCA of the Chesapeake organizes registration and transportation from its Easton location. The goal of the after-school program is to empower students with self-confidence and pride, providing mentorships with shipwright educators to guide and support students during this crucial year in their development.

Participants in the program learn basic woodworking skills, including safety procedures, with several take-home projects offered, providing invaluable experience for future woodworking projects or careers.
