The Church of St James the Great is a magnificent building predominantly from the 15th century, with some parts potentially dating back to the 11th century in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, UK. The church is dedicated to St James, who is not a Cornish saint but was important due to Kilkhampton’s location on the pilgrim route to Compostella in Spain where St James’ relics are held. The Cornish Historic Churches Trust is an organisation that works towards maintaining Cornwall’s historic churches for future generations to enjoy.
In 2015, the photographer behind Piktour decided to take more black and white photographs, specifically of Cornwall’s granite landscapes. However, after visiting Zennor Church and seeing the potential for photographic interest in Cornwall’s churches, the photographer began what is now known as The Churches Project.
