St Winwaloe’s Church is located in Gunwalloe, Cornwall, UK. Dating back mostly to the 15th century, with some parts from the 13th Century, the church boasts an unusual Three Hall design, a detached bell tower, and a strange statue outside the Church entrance. The church is said to have been built in honour of St. Winwaloe, a Welsh saint known for his ability to heal the sick.
The church has become a popular spot for black and white photography enthusiasts, thanks to its gritty exterior and vibrant interior. This led to the inception of The Churches Project in April 2015, aimed at capturing the beauty of Cornwall’s historic churches and churchyards through photographs.
To help preserve the beautiful churches of Cornwall for future generations, The Cornish Historic Churches Trust was established. They work towards maintaining these historic buildings and welcome donations to support their efforts.
The photography and equipment required for The Churches Project is sponsored by Inline Filters, a leading filter specialist in the UK serving the heavy-duty automotive industry.
Piktour is a portfolio website and blog by a photographer in Cornwall, showcasing the beautiful work done for The Churches Project. These images are available for use as long as accreditation is provided, and if financial benefit is obtained from them, donations to Sightsavers are requested.
There are plans for a Fine Art Prints and Downloads section on Piktour, where interested individuals can purchase photographic prints. At present, available images can be viewed by visiting www.piktour.uk/galleries/buy. If a particular image of interest is not available, requests can be made through the website’s contact page.
