The author, Ian, is on a work trip to Warrington in the UK for an audit. He wakes up early and heads out to take a walk before picking up his rental car. He visits a former colleague in St Helens and then decides to visit the church where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned and executed in Fotheringhay Castle. He takes pictures and explores the church before getting back on the road to Warrington.
Ian makes a stop in Titchmarsh to check out the church there before continuing on his journey. He encounters snow on his way and is delayed due to a crash on the M6. He eventually arrives at his friend’s house, where he spends time catching up before receiving a call urging him to get to his hotel quickly due to heavy snowfall.
Ian drives to his hotel, which is actually a golf resort. The final mile is particularly difficult as the road is covered in snow and he is running low on fuel. He eventually makes it to the hotel safe and sound.
