Habitat: Fagus sylvatica forest with some Picea abies reasonably steep mountain slope, north part, calcareous floor, in shade, partly secured from direct rain by tree canopies, typical precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/12 months, common temperature 5-7 deg C, elevation 1.000 m (3.300 toes), alpine phytogeographical area.

Substratum: a highly rotten trunk of almost certainly Fagus sylvatica lying on ground.

Position: Northeast slopes of Mt. Kobariški Stol mountain ridge, in close proximity to the prime of Prvi Hum hill southwest of village Žaga, East Julian Alps, Posočje, Slovenia EC.

Responses: Chlorociboria aeruginascens is a little but stunning coloured fungus. It stains decaying wood superbly blue-eco-friendly by the output of the pigment xylindein. The stained wood has been made use of by woodworkers for centuries to deliver the blue-inexperienced colours in their marvelous inlaid intarsia designs (see Ref.1).

Two morphologically indistinguishably very similar species of Chlorociboria exist: Chlorociboria aeruginascens and Chlorociboria aeruginosa. They can be distinguished only microscopically, largely by the size of their ascospores. The spores of Chlorociboria aeruginosa are usually larger than individuals of C. aeruginascens. However, I located no spores and for this reason it is not confident, which species the photographs demonstrate. Given that the Chlorociboria aeruginosa is a great deal much less recurrent in normal and also in Slovenia I assume I photographed Chlorociboria aeruginascens. These two fungi are distributed during the temperate forests of the earth.
