Lego Divider Drawers!

Lego Divider Drawers!

Lego Divider Drawers!

So I’ve been performing on this given that this last semester ended, and I have at last concluded. Type of. There are 4 more drawers that want to be set up and yet another 20-40 or so that require to be built. So ya, this is likely to be an ongoing venture.

The drawer that is open is what I’m going to be conversing about as the top drawer was the prototype and all the other drawers that I make will be like the open one. The space that I experienced for the drawer was 27″ extensive, so I figured I could make a 26″ extensive drawer then have 1/2″ on either conclude for the runners. I have a pretty huge lego collection and a comprehensive woodshop (low-middle selection instruments and yardsale finds), I are not able to afford to pay for $10-20 for really extravagant drawer slides for all 30-40 drawers that I am heading to at some point have – some staying shallower than 3″. To remedy that money problem, I just slice some scrap 2x4s down to 3/8″ x what ever the other side is…I definitely never remember if I truly calculated it or not.

The drawer slides let for 1/8″ of air in between the drawer and the legs of the desk on possibly aspect. There is a slight situation when getting into thing to consider that if the drawer is all the way to one side (like it is in this picture) then now there is 1/4″ on the other side. But a bit of math and figuring items out that I really don’t remember the specific quantities for, but in essence no make a difference how much the drawer goes to 1 aspect, it will never tumble down. This is great since that large gap involving the drawer and table legs will allow for some…considerably less than fascinating accuracy that arrives with 2x4s. Er…2x3s.

Shifting on… The deal with was a very simple make. Its like an inch-ish tall, I consider 3/4″ thick, and there is a bevel on the base. The primary handle failed to have that bevel and it was in essence useless. When I lower the bevel, I just tilted the tablesaw blade to 45 levels and ripped the board. I did acquire take note that I did not want the edge of the 45 to be a sharp edge due to the fact I didnt want to minimize my fingers. So my resolution is to have about 3/8″ of flatness (?) on the tip.

Because the drawers are not obvious, I hotglued some legos to the front (2×3, 2×2, and 2×4 L-R) to assist clearly show me where by the items are. Will that destruction the pieces? Maybe? Brickset states I am around 115k and this is about 50 percent of my primary 2x’s so I think I can spare a several. The past slot I believe I’m heading to use for 2×6+ since I don’t have an abundance of those and want to retain them with the other 2xs. The 1x drawer is likely to be fun since I just remembered that I acquired about 200 yellow 1x2s on bricklink a few many years back. Why? I have no strategy. They were being $.01/ea and they had ~200 of them so I bought them. I’m looking at building a substantial yellow castle, but I don’t have enough for the scale I’m seeking, nor do I have a place to place it atm.

So with that, I consider I only have a person much more lego/woodworking job coming up. Also ready for my nearby lego retailer to inventory trans-blue studs so I can carry on my lego challenge without the require for a multi-thousand greenback loan…
