Artists of all types were invited to implement for the opportunity to pay a visit to our Goddard House Flight Centre to be motivated by the huge, golden, fully-assembled James Webb House Telescope mirror. Webb has a mirror that is almost 22 ft superior and (to improve it for infrared observations) is covered in a microscopic layer of genuine gold. Simply because of Webb’s visually placing visual appeal, the undertaking hosted a special viewing event on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016.

There was an frustrating reaction to the party invitation and eventually 20-4 men and women had been chosen to attend. They represented a broad vary of creative media and designs, which include: watercolor, 3D printed sculpture, silk screening, acrylics, sumi-e (East Asian brush method), comics, letterpress, woodwork, metalwork, jewellery creating, fiber art, ink, mural painting, kite-generating, tattooing, scientific illustration, poetry, songwriting, and movie creating.

The artists expended quite a few hrs sitting proper in front of the telescope, exactly where they sketched, painted, took pictures and even filmed a tunes video clip.

When some of the parts of art were finished at the celebration, most of the artists went house with their heads full of thoughts and sketchbooks whole of notes.

We will proceed to include celebration pictures and artwork listed here to our Flickr.

Artist’s Assertion on this work

Suminagashi, Japanese ink-marbling, is the artwork of capturing fragile, swirling patterns of ink floating on the surface area of drinking water with rice paper. Buddhist monks follow suminagashi as a form of meditation and enlightenment. I used suminagashi to represent space as the unpredictable designs resemble galactic illustrations or photos. I added the Webb Telescope in metallic paints, and strengthened the suminagashi styles in sumi-e ink. Extra things are held to a minimum amount, apart from the pink seal in the reduce ideal corner, a vintage way to sign an artwork.
